Westfield High School's Orchestra consists of 3 orchestras, all of which play challenging and beautiful repertoire. Our Freshman Orchestra is an intermediate Grade IV orchestra where the majority of freshmen begin their careers as Westfield Musicians.
Second, the Concert Orchestra is a higher orchestra consisting of students from every grade level. Many students find this orchestra to be the most developmental to their career as a Westfield Musician.
Finally, the top group, the Advanced Orchestra at Westfield performs challenging repertoire & works hard to constantly perform music at the highest level. Students in this orchestra receive a 0.5 GPA boost for the additional rehearsals, practice, and performances as compensation. These students also are required to take part in Westfield's Symphonic Orchestra where students from band and orchestra come together to perform.
All of Westfield's Orchestras are under the direction of Mr. Greg Rupert. Greg Rupert, a renowned viola performer around the US, is a graduate of Juilliard school of music. He has been directing Westfield musicians for 23 years and started his career as a music educator 37 years ago. He is the former principal violist of Fairfax Symphony Orchestra and is current principal violist at Alexandria Symphony Orchestra .
